Favorite Songs Of 2019

Here are the gurus pick for their favorite songs released in 2019.

James:

Yes I know we never posted our lists of favorite 2019 songs because at the time Manwon^^ was on hiatus from the site and I was too busy trying to keep up.  (Also it didn’t feel right to make the list without her).  That being said, there is no set number of songs for 2019 that I am counting as a favorite.  Also since it is now 2022 and I don’t know when some songs became my favorites as I was also not listening to as much K-pop at the time due my only requirement for my personal list of 2019 songs is that it is currently my favorite as of 2022 and it was released in the year 2019.

1. Fear- SEVENTEEN

This is one song that as soon as I heard it I was in love.  Seventeen just makes amazing music and Fear is no exception.  I had this song (and whole album on repeat for months).  Everything about it is just phenomenal.

2. Say My Name – ATEEZ

Say My Name was one of those songs that I listened to the day it was released, and immediately knew it was going to be on my list of favorite songs, and it still is.  This was the song that saw me switch from my original bias Hongjoong to Mingi (who also didn’t last long as a bias), but Mingi’s part int he chorus….probably my absolute favorite part of the song.

3. Blue Flame – ASTRO

Love love love ASTRO and this song is exactly what I wanted from the group.  I love their more mature sound that they had during this period.  The MV is simple but perfect, though Moon Bin needs to stop attacking me every time I watch it. (Moon Bin just needs to stop attacking me in general) .

4. LION – (g)I-DLE

I know this song was technically a song from Queendom, but the fact that they added it to their following album says that I can count it.  And in years past I allowed survival show songs so I think I can count LION.  This is probably my favorite (g)I-DLE songs.  Its soooo good.  It is also consistently stuck in my head so even when I’m not listening to it in a way I am still listening.

5. Chronosaurus – Stray Kids

I so wish this song was the title track of their album instead of Miroh.  When I think of Stray Kids this is what I want from them.  I was not a big fan of the title tracks from the Clé era of SKZ, but the B-Sides….omg especially Chronosaurus were perfection.  This song gives me goosebumps.

6. D.D.D – The Boyz

This is one that I didn’t think would be on my list, but its just sooooooooo freaking fun.  A huge contrast from the first 5 songs on this list.  This is one song, that as much as I want to cannot listen to in my car when I’m driving, because it just makes me want to dance, and 1 that is not safe to dance and drive, and 2 people will look at me funny and that is just embarassing, When you’re feeling down this is a song that should always be put on because it impossible not to smile when this song is on.

7. Red – The Rose

Red is just a beautiful song, its both soft but cheerful.  I have really liked everything that The Rose has released but there is just something extra special about Red.  This is one song that I didn’t expect would be on my list when it came out, but here we are and it is, and I am so happy it is.

8. Quit – FTISLAND

FTISLAND has always made stunningly beautiful ballads, and Quit is no exception.  This is a song that I was certain would be on my list when it was release purely because it is FTISLAND but also it is such a deserving song of being on my list.  Hong Ki’s voice is absolutely perfect for this song (as it should be being an FT song).  I do wish that the group was in the MV especially since this was the last song with Seunghyun.

9. Breathe – AB6IX

I was so excited for AB6IX debut, mostly because I was obsessed with 4 out of 5 of the members because of Produce.  Loved MXM and was so happy when the 4 of them reunited after Wanna One ended, and the addition of Woong into the line-up was a perfect choice.  Breathe did not disappoint.  Not going to lie I was a bit sad that they didn’t debut with “Hollywood” since I loved their intro stage on Produce, and thought about putting that song on here instead, but because it made its appearance a few year prior and I loved Breathe too I felt that i should technically knock Hollywood off of my list for not being a “2019” song.

10. You Callin’ My Name – GOT7

Looking at my past lists I’m kinda surprised that GOT7 never made it on to any of my favorite songs because they have amazing songs.  Somehow though unfortunately for them they always got overshadowed by my “song of the moment” so being able to look back at songs that really made an impact in the long run really gave GOT7 the edge this time, and I’m so glad it did, because it is an amazing song.

11.  Nostalgic Night – VICTON

Another group who’s early discography got really over looked.  I really liked Victon’s songs since their debut, especially Eyez Eyez, but I would listen to them a lot for a short time and then move on to the next song.  Sadly it wasn’t until the group gained popularity because of Produce that I realized how much I listened to them up to that point.  Nostalgic Night was a song however that instantly I knew would be a top played song for a long time.

12.  Psycho – Red Velvet

And now I guess it’s time to admit to myself that I am a Red Velvet fan.  Russian Roulette was on my list a few years about, Peek-A-Boo should have been on my 2017 list but I was probably in denial, Red Flavor is retroactively on one of my lists, as is Bad Boy.  Despite the fact that when Psycho was first released it wasn’t on of my favorites, it has quickly become one of my favorite RV song and one that I listen to a ton these days.

Manwon^^:

Making these lists is always so fun and always so hard! Here are my favorite songs from 2019!  The songs here are loosely in order of release for the year of 2019, so they are not ordered according to my favorite to least favorite.  I gotta say 2019 began really strong and ended really strong in terms of releases!

1. Valkyrie – OneUs

This song just stuck with me immediately!  I still listen to it on almost a daily basis and have yet to get tired of hearing it!  Such a great song, and such a strong debut too – it was a great way to begin 2019 musically!

2. Home – Seventeen

Seventeen could have been on this list for any number of songs (Hit, Fear, Getting Closer) but Home was also one of those songs that when I first heard it, it just hit me in the feels and stuck with me.  (Plus James already put Fear on this list so I figured I can feature another great Seventeen song here!)

3. Say My Name – ATEEZ

Seriously, the month of January in 2019 was taking no prisoners with the amazing music that was being released.  ATEEZ still remains one of my favorite groups! And this song really just highlights who ATEEZ is as a group and what they do so well – amazingly strong performances with beautiful story telling!

4. Eung Eung (%%) – APink

APink is one of those legendary girl groups who keeps making great song after great song!  I really liked %% after I heard it the first time around, and it just kept growing on me to become one of my favorite APink songs (and maybe girl group songs?!?!?) ever!

5. Crown – TXT

Honestly, when this first came out I didn’t get the hype around TXT and this song, but of course after a few days of listening to it only once I kept getting the chorus stuck in my head on repeat for hours on end.  Which of course meant I had to re-listen to the song, which of course led to an inevitable downward spiral of falling in love with “Crown” and thus with TXT.  Now it’s one of my favorite songs period.

6. Highway to Heaven – NCT 127

This is my cheat song on this list (I can never seem to make it through a list without cheating on it!) It’s of course an English song, but damn it is it a good song!  Damn you NCT 127! Why do you consistently have to make such catchy songs?!?!?!

7. D.D.D- The Boyz

There’s a reason both James and I picked this song – it’s a freaking amazing song by the Boyz.  Seriously I always love what The Boyz comes out with, but this song in particular is just so much perfection in one song! Of course it had to be mentioned twice!

8. Regulus – OneWe

You didn’t think I would make a list with OneUs on it and not also include the amazing OneWe did you?!?!?! This song solidified my love for this group and just proves why there should be more bands in K-Pop!

9. RED – The Rose

I’m just going to leave this hear for your to listen to, I think once you’ve heard the song there’s no reason for me to explain why it’s on this list!

10. Face – Woosung

Amazing vocals? Check! A great beat? Check! Breaking beauty stereotypes in a beautifully artistic way? Check!  Woosung’s ‘Face’ for the win!

11. Blue Flame – Astro

Words fail me on this one – Astro never disappoints and this song is no exception! Blue Flame is just a gorgeous song with stunning visuals within the MV to support it!  Astro really defined themselves for me with this song!

12. Nostalgic Night – Victon

Wow!  What a comeback for Victon!  This song is just stunning and highlights all of the reasons Victon deserves ALL the love from K-Pop fans!  It would have been so wonderful if Seungwoo could have also been a part of the song, but this is also the song that proved to many why Victon deserved to be loved, and helped this group continue forward in their career!  It is definitely a song worthy of being a career saver!

13. Levanter – Stray Kids

Stray Kids ended the year 2019 with such an amazing song in Levanter!  The song here at spot 13 could have also easily been Chronosaurus; but since James has that song already, I figured I would spread the Stray Kids love around and highlight the amazing song that is Levanter!
